The Nikon Coolpix S3000 takes over from the S220 and offers fans of the genre 7 even sharper colors than its predecessor. It has a 12 Mpx sensor and a 27-108 mm zoom, but no mechanical stabilization: it relies above all on its style and a low price to win.
Getting started
The S3000 is an ultra-compact with a plastic shell all in delicate, thin and smooth lines. The keys are flush and only the zoom control and the shutter release button give a touch of relief to the whole. Unfortunately, this too smooth appearance can affect the grip: typically, the small chrome thumb rest is not very reassuring and we fear a bad fall.
Its sexy side evaporates when you turn it on: the screen is mediocre. The 230,000 points ensure just correct finesse. Fluency is not his strong point. It displays a delay time on moving subjects. In low light the dark areas become blocked and tingling appears. Best of all, the screen is a TN panel with excruciatingly narrow viewing angles on the vertical axis (see photos below).
